"Where should I do my IT?" "Will I actually learn anything?" "Will the place sign my logbook properly?"
Why your SIWES choice matters more than you think
SIWES (the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme) is supposed to be where classroom theory meets real work. Too often it becomes three to six months of photocopying, buying fuel and waiting for something to happen.
Your placement is the first line on your CV and the first story you will tell in an interview. Choose a place that gives you something worth talking about.
Before you accept any placement, ask it five questions:
1Will I learn a skill employers pay for, or just "help around the office"?
2Is there a plan - do I know what I'll learn each week?
3Will someone review my work and help me with my logbook and report?
4Will I leave with proof - a project I can show, a certificate anyone can check?
5Does the length match my institution's dates?
Here is how we answer each one.
"What will I actually learn?"
Real, job-ready ICT skills, taught from the basics so no experience is needed. Every trainee follows a structured programme of modules:
Web Foundations - HTML & CSS:build and style real web pages from your first tag.
JavaScript:make websites interactive.
PHP & MySQL with XAMPP:build dynamic, database-driven websites - the skills behind most business systems.
Cybersecurity Awareness:protect yourself, your data and the organisations you'll work for.
Cable Networking:the practical side of how offices and campuses get connected.
Professional Office Skills:the documents, spreadsheets and presentations every workplace runs on.
Capstone Project:plan, build and present your own working web application.
On the 6-month track you also take two advanced modules: Front-End Pro (Bootstrap, APIs & Git) and PHP in Production (uploads, email, APIs and deployment) - the step from "I can build it" to "I can put it online".
"How long is the programme - will it match my school's dates?"
Choose the track that fits your institution:
3-month track (12 weeks) - seven modules, ending with your capstone.
6-month track (24 weeks) - nine modules with more practice time and the two advanced modules.
If your placement is shorter or longer, talk to us and we'll match you to the right track.
"Will I know what to do every week?"
Yes. Your cohort starts on a Monday, and every module opens on its date. You always know what to learn this week, what's next and how far you've come - no wasted weeks waiting for someone to give you work.
Lessons are online, with video and reading notes, so you can study at the hub, at home or on the move. Practical sessions and projects keep your hands on a keyboard.
"What about my logbook and supervision?"
This is where many placements fall short - and where we put in extra care. You keep a weekly logbook on our platform, and our supervisors review it and give you feedback. By the time your institution supervisor visits or you sit down to write your SIWES report, you have a clear, week-by-week record of what you did and learned.
"Will I leave with anything to show?"
Two things most placements can't give you:
A capstone project - a working web application you planned, built and presented yourself. Put it in your portfolio and show it in interviews.
A verifiable certificate - complete your modules and capstone and you earn a certificate that any employer can check online.
A certificate says you attended. A project shows you can do the work. You leave with both.
"Will I be learning alone?"
Never. You learn alongside your cohort, with mentors to guide you, and you get free access to our AI Community Hub - weekly challenges, live sessions and a community of young people building with technology. Because the future of work is AI-assisted, you'll also learn to use AI the right way: to learn faster, not to cheat yourself.
Your account also opens our free online courses - AI, coding, digital marketing and more - so your learning doesn't stop when SIWES ends.
"Do I need a laptop? What does it cost?"
Laptop:strongly recommended. You can study lessons on a phone, but projects need a computer.
Internet:required for the online lessons.
Fees:each cohort has its own fee, and instalment plans are available so you can spread the cost. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll send you the current fee for your intake.
"When can I start, and how do I apply?"
Our next intake, the 3-Month SIWES Batch A 2026/2027, starts on Monday, 2 November 2026. Places are limited per cohort, so apply early.
Applying takes about five minutes:
1Apply online with your institution, course of study and preferred track.
2Attach your SIWES / IT letter from your institution (PDF or a clear photo).
3Choose your track and start date.
4Get approved - we email your trainee login and a link to set your password, and you're in.
Who is this for?
Polytechnic, university and college students going on SIWES or industrial training (IT) - especially in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronics, Statistics, Office Technology and related courses.
Fresh graduates who want a structured ICT internship and a portfolio before job hunting.
If you want to come out of SIWES with skills instead of excuses, this is for you.
