What is the KadQuantumHub AI Community?
It is a free AI community in Kaduna, Nigeria, run by KadQuantumHub (Kaduna Quantum Innovations Hub). We teach people to understand AI and use it better, discuss AI ethics and its dangers to society, are building a Hausa AI for safer online spaces, and research low-cost local AI.
Is the KadQuantumHub AI Community non-profit?
Yes. The AI Community is run on a non-profit basis as an initiative of KadQuantumHub: joining is free and its goal is public benefit - helping people understand AI, use it better and responsibly, and building AI that works for our society and languages.
Where is the community based?
In Kaduna, Nigeria. Meetups and events hold at the KadQuantumHub hub in Kaduna, with online sessions and campus chapters for members elsewhere.
What is the Hausa AI project?
It is our effort to build AI that understands Hausa well enough to help detect insults, abuse and hate speech on social media, so it can be moderated and regulated fairly. It is in the research stage, built with native speakers, with humans making the final decisions and care for privacy and free expression.
What does the community research?
How to build low-cost local AI: small, efficient models that can run on affordable hardware or phones, work with Hausa and other local languages, and don't depend on expensive foreign services. We share what we learn openly.
Who can join?
Anyone aged 16 and over who is curious about AI: students of any school or course, graduates, teachers, researchers, developers, business owners, creatives, community leaders and parents. Coding experience is not required.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Joining the community and attending community events is free.
How do I join?
Fill in the short form on the Join page (kadquantumhub.ng/community/join) with your name, email and interests. You then get access to the community feed, events, challenges and your campus chapter.
How can I contribute to the Hausa AI project?
Join the community and tell us how you'd like to help - Hausa speakers and linguists help collect and label language data, while developers and researchers help build and test the models.
Is there a campus chapter for my school?
Choose your school when you join. If it isn't listed, type it in - we create a chapter once a few students join, and choose a Campus Ambassador.
How can organisations partner with or support the community?
Organisations can sponsor events, provide venues, data or computing resources, or co-run research on Hausa AI and low-cost AI. Reach the team through the Contact page (kadquantumhub.ng/contact).
